South San Tourney Recap & Recruiting Report
‘TOP PERFORMERS’ THAT STOOD OUT THIS WEEKEND
5’10 2028 Point Guard Amare Guerra | SA Antonian Prep Lots Have Changed At Antonian Prep Since Last Year’s Deep Playoff Run, Legendary Coach Rudy Bernal Has Hung Up The Whistle, Several Key Pieces Have Moved To Other Schools To Continue Their Career, And A New Coach Is Putting In A New System! That Usually Takes A Full Year To Make That Transition, However One Thing Remains The Same-Amare Is Still The Point Guard Instilling Confidence In Every Single Teammate When He’s On The Floor With His Drive To “WIN” And Sets The Tone For His Team With His Relentless Effort. That Was On Full Display In A Semifinal Game vs SAVM From The Opening Tap With His Attacking ‘Mindset’ As They Jumped Out To a 20 Point Lead In the First Quarter And Never Looked Back. NCAA D1 Merrimack U Commit Is Going To Do Big Things At the Next Level
6’3 2027 Point Guard Chase Richardson | Houston Friendswood HS Although His Team Fell a Little Short, Chase Stole The Show From Start To Finish In Both Games I Evaluated. Has The Size, Skill Set And College Ready Toughness To Continue To Move Up D1 Boards With Two Years To Grow His Game. There Is a Lot of Talent Out There These Days, The Transfer Portal, And Misinformation On Socials Daily That Makes It Hard for HS Seniors To Truly Know What Matters When It Comes To Gaining Exposure. Chase Simplifies It Cause One Thing Will NEVER Change And That Is Showcasing Competitive Toughness, Will To WIN, And Play With Tremendous Effort Throughout The Entire Game And You Will Get Noticed! Chase Does All 3 At An Elite Level And Will Be Playing On TV In a Few Years For a MM/HM Program. Keep Doing Exactly What You Did This Past Weekend & Recruiting Takes Care of Itself. Projected Levels: NCAA MM/HM D1
6’4 2026 Shooting Guard Logan Gonzalez | Cibolo Steele HS Logan Continues To Do What Needs To Be Done To Lead Steele To Win After Win. Whether It Be Guard a 6’8 Post, Lead The Team In Rebounds, Take Charges of Just Flat Out Keep Everyone Calm And Confident With His Consistent Play, You Have To Respect The Growth This Kid Has Made From Year To Year At Steele. That’s Not An Accident, That Happens In the Off-Season When No One Is Watching! Not Much Else To Say Except By The End of the Week He And His Team Were The Last Ones Standing Taking Home The Tourney Title Filled With a Lot of Great Teams. Winners WIN And Logan Is a ‘Winner’ Prepared To Make The Transition To The College Level. Enjoy Each And Every Moment Of Your Senior Year, You Have Earned It Projected Levels: NCAA D2+ / LM D-Committed To NCAA D2 TAMU-Kingsville-
6’2 2026 Combo Guard Maurice Eddie | Cibolo Steele HS Maurice Continues To Play With Confidence, Great Pace, And Makes The Right Play Over The Highlight Play From The PG Position. Can Move Off The Ball And Essentially Steele Has 2 Point Guards On the Floor Whether He’s The Lead Guard Or Creating Plays From The Off Guard Position. What I Truly Like About Maurice’s Game Is His Efficient Play And Court Savvy That Translates To The College Level. He’s Flying Under The Radar And Under Recruited, But That Will Slowly Change Over The Course of the Season As He is a Key To Why Steele Is Set To Make Another Deep Playoff Run. That Will Not Go Unnoticed For Long, Expect His Recruitment And Level of Recruitment To Rise Due To His Consistent Play On One of the Top Teams In The Greater San Antonio Area. Projected Levels: D1 JUCO / NAIA+
6’6 2027 Shooting Guard Keshav Vijaykumar | Houston Friendswood HS Big Wing With College Level Size And Shot That Translates To The Higher Levels. Moves Great Without The Ball In His Hands To Get To His Spots And Can Shoots Over The Top of the ‘D’ At 6’6. Has a Quick Release And Great Shot Mechanics Indicating He’s a High % Shooter That Is Always a Threat And Spaces The Floor For Friendswood Which Opens Up Driving Lanes For a Solid Backcourt Allowing Chase Richardson & Cash Clark To Make Plays or He Will Make You Pay! Right Now He’s a College Level Shooter With Range, And With 2 Years To Grow His Overall Game His Stock Will Continue To Rise. Projected Levels: D1 JUCO / NCAA D2+
6’5 2026 Playmaker Devin Peterson| SA Warren HS Devin is a Tough Matchup For Opposing Defenses With His Versatility And Ability To Score It At All 3 Levels. Has a High Basketball IQ and Reads Mismatches Well And Makes The Right Play Depending On Who Is Guarding Him. Takes Smaller Wings Down Low And Finishes In The Paint, Or Takes 3/4’s Out On The Perimeter And Beats Them Off The Bounce. Evaluated Devin in a Team Camp This Summer And He Passed The Eye Test, And Got To Evaluate Two Games This Past Weekend And He Also Passes The Flat Out Can Play Test! Strong So Gets To The Line Or Finishes Through Contact In the Paint When Attacking Off The Bounce. Projected Levels: NAIA / NCAA D2
6’8 2026 Forward Dononvan Bolden | Warren HS Donovan is Flying Under The Radar, But He’s Making The Most of his Senior Season Season And Making An Impact for Warren on the Defensive End And On The Glass! Late Bloomer That Has Only Been Playing Ball For a Few Years. Like The Old Saying “You Can’t Teach Size…” This Kid Not Only Has Size, He Runs The Floor Like a Guard, Has Great Instincts In Help Defensive Situations As a Rim Protector, Consistently Pursued Rebounds Getting Second Shots For His Team & Several Put Backs In Key Moments. Simply Put, He Found Ways To Make Winning Plays Without Being The #1 Offensive Option on a Solid Warren Team Set To Have a Big Season. If They Put It All Together In The Second Semester And Make a Deep Playoff Run, Donovan Will Be A Key Piece And Will Move Onto a Lot More Coaches Boards Down The Stretch. Big Fella With Big Upside That Would Benefit Going The JC Route Projected Levels: D1 JUCO (If He Goes The JC Route With 2 Years To Continue To Grow His Game He Could End Up With D2+/LM Offers)
6’8 2026 Power Forward Hagen Hurst | SA O’Connor Big Man That Plays Big! Has a Great Feel for the Game, Excellent Passer Out of the High or Low Post, Is Very Efficient On Both Ends of the Floor. Great FIT for a HC Motion That Runs High Low Action And Teaches 5 vs 1 Pack line Principles on Defense. Seals Hard on Ball Reversals And Catches It Close To The Basket By Pinning Which Leads To A High % Shot or FT Attempts. Not a Lot of Flash To Big Hagen, Just Produces Doesn’t Make a Lot of Mistakes, Plays To His Strengths Which Is Under Rated These Days In the Time When 1 on 1 Play is Highlighted On Socials. Basketball Is And Will Always Be a Team Sport, And Hagen Does What He Does Best To Help Teams Win Which Is Why He Secured An Early Offer And Committed To NCAA D2 MSU Denver.
6’3 2026 Playmaker Chris Howell | Cibolo Steele Versatile Tough Minded Defender That Can Guard The 1-3 Positions, Has a High Motor, And Is Starring In His Role For South San Tourney Champs Steele Knights! Chris Is Taking Advantage of an Opportunity By Doing What Is Asked of Him And Doing it at a College Level On A Team Filled With Offensive Weapons. Made Multiple Winning Plays Down The Stretch In The Semi-Final & Championship Game That Was a Key To Both Wins. On Top of That, He Was Assigned To Guard Future D1 Signee Chase Richardson & D1 Signee Amare Guerra And Did More Than His Job In Both Games Making It Hard For Two D1 Guards To Get In The Flow Of the Game. All Coaches At the End of the Day Want To WIN, If You Don’t Like Your Current Role Take Chris’s Approach And Make More Plays That Impact Outcomes Without the Ball In Your Hands. He’s Impacting Games With His Consistent Defensive Effort, Rebounding & Brings ‘Toughness’ To The Court That Steele Will Need To Make Another Deep Run. Projected Levels: D2 JUCO / NCAA D3+ (Great Fit In Up Tempo Pressing System)
6’6 2026 Stretch 4 Jamichael Moore | SA Veterans Memorial Jamichael Has Tools You Can’t Teach that Translate To The Higher Levels, Stretch 4 That Has The Skill Set To Play The 3 in College, Does a Good Job of Making Plays Out of the High Post or Posting Up Smaller Wings Making Him a Tough Matchup for Defenses, And Looks His Best When He’s Active On the Glass. Has a Knack For Getting 2nd Shots And Soft Touch In the Paint When He Secures the Offensive Rebound. I Thought His Scholarship Level Ticket His Junior Season Was How Well He Rebounded To Go Along With Being a Skilled 6’6 Playmaker. His Size And Skill Set Will Continue To Gain Interest, His Ability To Consistently Rebound It Second Semester Will Turn Interest To Scholarship Level Offers. Get Back To Being a Beast On The Boards Big Jamichael And Your Recruitment & Level of Recruitment Will Take Care of Itself Down The Stretch. Still a Fan of this Kid’s Upside As his Best Ball Is Still In Front of Him! Projected Levels: D2 JUCO / D1 JUCO
6’2 2026 Combo Guard Gerald O’Neal | Converse Judson Another Prospect That Passes the ‘Toughness’ Test And Competes On Both Ends of the Floor for Judson. Really Good at Getting Downhill In the HC and Making Plays Off the Bounce, And When The Game Speeds Up Gerald Is Tough To Stop With His Size And Ability To Finish Plays In Traffic. Knocks Down Timely 3’s Which Keeps Defenses Honest And Opens Up More Opportunities To Attack The Paint, And Does a Great Job Staying Engaged In Help Defense Outside of Being an Elite On Ball Defender Which Puts Him In The 2-Way Player Category. To Truly Be a College Ready Defender You Must Stay Engaged Defensively Both On And Off the Ball, And To Many HS Players Relax When There Man Gives It Up. That’s Where Gerald Separates Himself From Elite Varsity Players To College Level Recruit By Being a True 2-Way Player. That Mindset and Approach To Consistently Competing Led To Securing a NCAA D2 Offer At Texas A&M Kingsville.
6’1 2026 Combo Guard Damien Ramirez | Wagner HS Tough, Physical Guard with a College Ready Body, Understands How To Play The Game and Uses His Strength And Physicality To Finish Through Contact or Draw Fouls When He’s Attacking Off The Bounce. Skilled Passer That Reads Situations Well And Does a Good Job Making PG Plays And Finding The Open Man When Drawing Second Line Defenders. Capable of Playing Both The PG And Off Guard Positions In College, Has Consistently Produced for Wagner On Both Ends of the Floor The Past Two Seasons And It’s Only a Matter of Time Before Interest Turns To An Accepted Offer for Damien. He’s Experienced, Tough Minded, And Talented. His Stock Will Continue To Rise In the Spring So Might As Well Take a Closer Look at His Game And Start Doing Your Research On Gerald. Projected Levels: D1 JUCO / NCAA D2
6’8 2026 Playmaker / SF Ethan Bilyeu | SA O’Connor One of the More Intriguing Seniors That Is Still Unsigned Is Big Ethan At O’Connor. Lots of 6’8+ Players Try To Show They Can Be a Guard Exposing Habits That Move Them Off Coaches Boards, Ethan on the other Hand Has The Skill Set To Play The 3 At 6’8 And The Length To Shoot Over The Top of the D Knocking Down Several 3’s & Creating Shots off the Bounce That Caught My Attention. What Kept My Attention Is When He Got 2 Big Boards And Put Backs to Go Along With a High Level Play Chasing Down a Guard In Transition and Getting a Big Time Block From Behind. That Takes Timing, And Basketball Savvy And Showed What Ethan’s Upside Truly Looks Like. If He Can Stay And Play In Attack Mode For Longer Stretches The Small College Programs All Over This Kid Won’t Have a Shot In The Spring To Get Him. He Holds The Keys To Whatever Level He Desires To Play At Down The Stretch. Projected Levels: D2/D1 JUCO - Would Be a Great RS Freshmen At a NCAA D2+ Program With His Skill Set, Size & Upside
SENIOR STOCK RISERS TO GET ON YOUR RECRUITS TO WATCH LIST
6’0 2026 PG Jaylen ‘Red’ Crittendon | Converse Judson Super Quick Guard Whose At His Best In The Open Court When The Game Speeds Up, Gets Downhill In the Half Court Putting Pressure On Opposing Defenses By Getting Paint Touches And Making The Right Play. Perfect FIT for an Up Tempo Program That Plays Fast and Runs a 5 Out Open Offense In the HC That Opens Up Driving Lanes For Players Like Jaylen. Has Improved His On Ball Defense And Disrupts The Opposing Teams PG By Applying Ball Pressure Without Getting Beat Off The Bounce. Really Liked This Kid His Sophomore Season After My San Antonio Camp Where He Finished On ‘Top’ And Nothing Has Changed. He’s Just Stronger, Grown as a Leader, And Is The Catalyst For Another Very Good San Antonio Team That Can Make a Deep Run In The Playoffs With Jaylen Leading the Way. Projected Levels: D1 JUCO / NAIA+ (Up Tempo Teams At These Levels Get This Kid On Your Radar)
6’3 2026 Combo Guard Jaden Jones | San Antonio Clark Jaden Is a Big Guard Listed as a PG But Is More of a Combo Guard With His Ability To Score It In a Variety of Ways. Has The Length, Athleticism, And Speed To Guard The 1-3 Spots At the College Level and Would Be a Great FIT in a System That Switches All Screens On The Perimeter And Extends Their Man To Man Defensive Pressure. Tough Matchup For Opposing Defenses As He Can Score It In a Variety of Ways And Stays and Plays In Attack Mode On The Offensive End. Showed The Ability To Absorb Contact And Score It In Traffic And Made Several Plays He Finished And Drew The Foul for an old Fashion And 1. Has a Good Motor, and Has The Potential To Play His Way Onto Scholarship Level Boards Over The Course of the Season. Right Now Has Several of the Higher Ranked D3 Programs Actively Recruiting Him, But Has The Physical Ability And Talent To Secure A Scholarship Level Offer When It’s All Said And Done. Projected Levels: NCAA D3+ / NAIA (Could Play His Way Into A Potentially Higher Offer)
6’0 2026 Point Guard Kerry Siverand | Houston Clear Springs Another Prospect That Passes the ‘Toughness’ Test And Competes On Both Ends Especially On The Defensive End. One of the Better On Ball Defenders In The Entire Tournament That Took Pride In Not Only Pressuring The Ball, but Dug In And Wouldn’t Allow His Opponent To Beat Him Off The Dribble. Looked His Best Getting Downhill And Finishing In The Paint Or Finding The Open Man. Knocked Down Timely 3’s And Stayed In Attack Mode Which Led To Open Shots For His Teammates. When The Consolation Championship Game Got Tight, Kerry Got Tougher! That Is When I Saw His College Ready Strength And His Potential To Defend His Way Into a College Offer. Strong Physical PG That Sets The Tone On D For His Team And Makes Everyone Better By Getting In The Paint At Will And Making The Right Play Projected Levels: D2 JUCO / NAIA+
6’0 2026 Point Guard DJ Jordan | SA Veterans Memorial Tough, Strong Built Point Guard That Has Quietly And Consistently Been The Catalyst for a SA Team That Has Won Close To 80% of There Games Since 23-24 Season When They Fell One Game Shy of the State Tourney. DJ Has Been A Fixture In The Backcourt During That Time, And Continues To Be The Steady PG He’s Always Been at SAVM. DJ Doesn’t Care About Flash, So He’s Flying Under The Radar And a Bit Under Recruited But That Can Change This Season If SAVM Makes Another Deep Run With DJ Leading The Way. Look at His Body of Work-All Time Leader In Charges Taken, Top 10 In Assists To Turnover Ratio, 3 Year Letterman On a Team That Has Won Over 80% of There Games, And Is Shooting The Ball at a Much Higher % This Year So Will Be Much Tougher To Guard With His Quickness And Ability To Get In The Paint. Late Steal for NAIA-D2 Programs When Roster Spots Open And You’re Looking For The Best Available Players In The 2026 Class. DJ Checks all the Boxes… Projected Levels: Top 25 NCAA D3+ / Late Steal NAIA-NCAA D2 Programs
6’6 2026 Forward Marshall Hicks | SA Antonian Prep On An Undersized Talented Team That Is Guard Heavy, Marshall Holds Down The Fort Down Low Which Forces Teams To Stay In Help And Opens Up Opportunities For His Guards To Make Plays. Does a Really Good Job on the Block At Reading Defensive Coverage, When He’s Doubled He Finds The Open Man on In Single Man Coverage He Takes His Time And Has Good Footwork And Touch 8 Feet At In To Finish Plays In The Pain. Seals Hard, Keeps Balls Alive On The Glass, And Has a Good Feel for the Game. Another Big Man That Does What He Does Best And Doesn’t Do Things He Can’t So Very Efficient On Both Ends For Antonian As The Only True Big Man On The Team This Year. Had this Kid at 2 Fall Camps, He Is Extremely Coachable, Top 10% of His Class Academically, And Will Be a Great Pickup for a High Academic Program That Plays Tough HC Smash Mouth Basketball. Projected Levels: High Academic NCAA D3+ / NAIA Programs (Must Have The Right FIT! Playing In An Up Tempo System And Playing His Role, But Watch Him In HC Settings This Spring And You Will See What This Kid Truly Brings To a Team)
6’2 2026 Shooting Guard Joey De Los Santos | SA Antonian Prep Joey Has Always Been Able To Shoot It at a High % And Knock Down Open Shots On Previous Antonian Teams, Which Kept Him In the Rotation The Last Two Seasons. Fast Forward To His Senior Year, And He Can Still Shoot It, but Now He’s Playing With More Confidence, Wants The Ball In Key Moments When Amare Is Being Doubled Or Denied, And Makes The Right Play Over Highlight Plays. He Has Taken The Next Step From Piece of the Puzzle as a Junior To One of the Leaders This Year at Antonian And Has Been a Key To Why His Team Is Off To Another Great Start. Joey’s Game Continues To Grow In All Facets On Both Sides of the Ball & Heads Into District Play Flying Under The Radar. If Antonian Can Make Another Deep Run In The Playoffs, His Value Won’t Go Unnoticed and His Stock Will Rise. Sleeper To Get On Your Radar. Projected Levels: NCAA D3 / NAIA (Programs That Run a True Motion And Shoot A High Volume of 3’s Get Joey On Your 2026 Watch List)
RISE IN THE RANKS ‘FUTURE PROSPECTS’ TO GET ON YOUR RADAR
6’6 2027 Playmaker / Stretch 4 Ricky Groff | Davenport HS Although The Weekend Didn’t Go As Planned for Davenport HS, Ricky Played Solid Throughout The Tournament And Has The Look of a Player That Will Rise In The Ranks In San Antonio This Season. Inside Out Stretch 4 That Competes, Has a Solid Skill Set And Excels In Pick & Roll Action With His Ability To Shoot, Pass or Drive It. 2027 To Get On Your Recruits To Watch List This Season Projected Levels: NAIA / NCAA D2 (Great FIT For Programs That Set Trail Ball Screens with their 4 And Run High Low Action In the Half Court)
6’0 2028 Point Guard Tru Wilson | Cibolo Steele HS I’ve Not Seen Steele Play This Season Until This Past Weekend, And Being Very Familiar With There Main Guns, I Was Equally Impressed With Super Soph Tru Wilson The Starting PG Who Took Advantage of His Opportunity To Fill In With a Senior PG Sidelined with an Injury. He Not Only Stepped Up To The Plate And Showed What His Future Will Look Like Moving Forward, He Was the Lead Guard In Big Games And Did More Than Hold His Own. He Made Big Plays And Was a Key To Steele Taking Home The Ship This Past Weekend. Really Like His Upside, And Has Time On His Side And Showed The Mental Toughness It Takes To Have The Ball In His Hands When Games Are On the Line. Super Soph Whose Stock Will Rise… Projected Levels: N/A For 2028’s (Stick To the Daily Process Tru Your Future Is Bright And Your Recruitment Is a By Product of The Work You Put In Over The Next 3 Years)
6’6 2028 Playmaker Eden Owne | SA Antonian Prep Long Athletic Wing / SF That Runs The Floor Hard, Finishes Above The Rim In Transition, And Has D1 Level Upside With His Length, Athleticism And Ability To Score It In a Variety of Ways. One of a Handful of 2028’s This Weekend Competing In The Tournament That Has All The Tools & Talent It Takes To Play His Way Into D1 Level Offers When It’s All Said And Done. Has So Much Room To Grow But Brings Things To The Court You Can’t Teach And Again With 3 Years Left To Grow His Game In All Facets, He’s One To Get On Early And Track His Progress. Eden Is Just Now Getting Started, But He’s Certainly Off To the Right Start Playing Big Minutes And Putting Up Numbers for a 14-2 Antonian Senior Heavy Team. Keep An Eye On This Kid, He’s an Early Lead That Has That D1 Level Look… Projected Levels: D1 JUCO / LM D1 (Those Levels With 3 Years To Grow Can Certainly Increase As His Game Evolves)
6’0 2027 Point Guard Evan Balboa | SA O’Connor Evan is a Pure PG That Will Run Your Team, Get You Into Your Offensive Set, And Doesn’t Allow Ball Pressure To Speed Him Up. Plays With Great Pace, Makes The Right Play And Is a High Assist / Low Turnover PG That Makes Everyone Around Him Better With His Poise And Court Savvy. High IQ Skilled Pass First PG That Made Timely Shots, Set the Tone On Defense With His Ball Pressure, And Just Has a Steady Game That Instills Confidence To His Team That All Will Be Fine With The Ball In His Hands. Really Liked This Kid As The Game Went On You Can See His Potential To Play Beyond HS In The Right FIT. Early Lead on a Pure PG That Will Continue To Draw Interest With His Steady Play Projected Levels: NCAA D3+ / NAIA
6’7 2027 Small Forward Asa Sievers | San Antonio Clark Don’t Want To Give Clark HS Head Coach Secrets Away, But As Soon As 6th Man Asa Enters The Game They Run Two or Three Plays For Him For 3pt Shots. You Would Think When You See a 6’7 Checking Into The Game He’s Going Straight To The Block, But Nope And It’s the Right Call With Asa As He Has The Size To Shoot Over The Top of Defenders and his Shot Mechanics & Release Indicate He Knocks Down a High % of Shots Beyond The Arc. Needs To Continue To Get Stronger And Not Settle For Just Being a Shooter They Run Plays For, And His Stock Will Rise And Rise Quickly at Clark In The Second Semester. Asa Is a Legit 6’7 And Can Be a Nightmare Matchup Moving Forward When He Gets In The Mix More Consistently On The Glass And Takes Smaller Wings Down Low And Makes Them Pay! As Those Two Areas Grow Watch Out Cause He Won’t Need a Play Called, He Will Flat Out Make Plays & Become a Mismatch Projected Levels: NCAA D3+ / NAIA
6’5 2027 Playmaker William Franklin | SA East Central HS Not Sure What Position William Truly Is At This Stage of the Game, But I’m Sure He’s a Flat Out Player That Can Play Multiple Positions On Offense And Defend Multiple Positions On Defense. Offensively He Is Tough To Stop When He Gets Downhill With His Length And the Ability To Finish Above The Rim. Uses His Body Well To Shield Off Defenders In The Paint And Gets To The FT Line By Playing Through Contact Instead of Avoiding it! Plays With Good Energy On Defense As Well, And Has Active Hands In East Centrals Full Court Press Getting Several Deflections By Anticipating Plays And Playing The Passing Lanes. Must Develop His Perimeter Shot Moving Forward But Has Time On His Size To Put In The Work And Improve His 3pt Shot This Offseason. Right Now He Brings a Certain Chip To The Floor, Plays With Good Energy And Makes Winning Plays On Both Ends That Stood Out To Me Throughout The Tourney. Like This Kid’s Upside, One To Get On Your 2027 Recruits To Watch List Projected Levels: D1 JUCO / NCAA D2
